"Actions speak louder than words"; DESI has a well-established reputation for taking action. As a Fraternity we are determined to organize and participate in events which further the 5 central principles. The 5 pillars are brought to life through the various events we contribute to and more significantly the events we organize as fraternity.

DESI has organized and participated in a multitude of community service events. These include but are far from limited to, "Habitat for humanity", "Adopt-a-highway", Community Cleanups, volunteering in soup kitchens, and cultural discussions. Often we give back to the community while embracing school spirit; producing a remarkable balance between academics and social activities.

Here's a brief look list of the events we do over the course of the semester:

Philanthropy:
DESI-man: An event we created. We raise money by getting sponsored to run 8 miles, play ball, lift some weights and do some swimming all in one shot. All the money we receive, we donate to local charities. Most recently, in our last DESIman we raised over hundred dollars for the Gloria Park community center, a recreational facility for underprivileged children.

Canned food and clothing drive: In the recent Student Association sponsored canned food and clothing drive, DESI was given an award for raising the most amount of food by any organization on campus. The brothers hit up all the dorms and were successful in raising over 500 lbs of food for the needy.

Adopt-A-Highway cleanup: DESI has adopted River Road in North Tonawanda. We go out and show our support for a clean environment in our community by cleaning a large section of this road.

Lake LaSalle cleanup: We help cleanup our very own Lake Lasalle on campus, in association with the Great Lakes sweep program. We remove trash from the shores of the lake every year in an effort to protect our environment.

Cultural Events:
Cultural Discussions: Every semester we hold a few discussions on campus. These discussion allow us to enlighten ourselves and our peers. We talk on issues pertaining to Indian culture as well as those faced by college students. E.g. Parental pressure on career choices, Exploitation of Indian culture by the mass media.

Asian Bazaar: The Various Asian greek organizations and international clubs host a awareness fair showcasing the different cultures from the asian subcontinent. DESI had an informational table showcasing the Indian culture.

Muqabala/India Night: DESI makes a vigorous presence at the Indian student association sponsored events such as Muqabala (Intercollegiate dance competion) and India Night. We either take part in these events on stage or offer a helping hand backstage during the shows.

International Fiesta: We help build a stage for one of the most popular events on our campus, where cultures from all around the world showcase their cuisine as well as dances and music styles.

Social/Parties
And of course... we've also built up a reputation for throwing the hottest jams. In association with Beta Sigma Kappa fraternity, we throw the one of the most anticipated parties of the semester Double Platinum. Now running on its 8th year, the last party was a huge success with a turnout of over 600 people partying all night to an eclectic mix of bhangra and latin music.
Look out for Double Platinum 8 coming next spring.
